A New Era Begins! – On Wednesday 3rd September, the Companions of East Lancashire gathered at Bolton Masonic Hall for a truly momentous occasion: the repurposing of the Chapter Of Hope No.54 as a University Chapter under the Supreme Grand Chapter’s Universities Scheme.

The meeting was honoured by the presence of the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent, Robert Ian Frankl, accompanied by a full Provincial Deputation. The Chapter also welcomed two distinguished visitors from Supreme Grand Chapter:

EComp Matthew Hampson, President of the Committee of General Purposes

EComp Stephen Wyer, Most Excellent Grand Superintendent for the Province of Worcestershire and Chairman of the Universities Scheme

Together they underlined the significance of the evening, speaking passionately about the close links between the Craft and the Holy Royal Arch – captured in the principle of “One Journey, One Organisation.” They highlighted the work undertaken at Supreme Grand Chapter to bring the Royal Arch closer to the Craft, and the importance of promoting the Order to new Companions as well as encouraging former members to re-join.

During the meeting, the Chapter was called off to welcome several ‘light blue’ Masons who are keen to progress further in Freemasonry and are considering exaltation into the Holy Royal Arch. This gesture not only showcased the openness of the Chapter but also gave those Brethren an inspiring glimpse into the next stage of their Masonic journey.

A further highlight came when newer members of the Chapter shared their own journeys through both the Craft and the Royal Arch. Their reflections offered an inspiring insight into the positive impact Freemasonry has had on their lives and underlined why initiatives such as the Universities Scheme are so vital for the future.

The formal proceedings were followed by a lively social board, where the Companions and Brethren came together to celebrate this historic step forward for the Chapter.

The repurposing of the Chapter Of Hope No.54 marks not only the continuation of a long and proud tradition, but also a fresh opportunity to engage and inspire the next generation of Royal Arch Masons in East Lancashire and beyond.
