4th Annual Coarse Fishing Fund Raiser

On Saturday 22nd April 2023, once again the East Lancashire Branch of the Masonic Fishing Charity hosted their annual coarse fishing fundraising match at Fir Tree Fisheries in Wigan. The event, which was attended by a total of 21 Freemasons and their guests, was a total success, raising £405.00 which will be used to fund a day’s fishing for children from The Manchester Academy in Harpurhey – hopefully to catch a smile!

It was a wild and windy day, but this did not deter the East Lancashire anglers who had a great day’s fishing, in the company of friends old and new. WBro Ian Walvin and WBro Alex Miller, one of the branch organisers, said, “It was a challenging day fishing and the nets showed this! We would like to thank everyone who took part, and every lodge for their generous donations. We would like to personally thank WBro Mike Frost, WBro Dave Grimshaw, Paul Cavney and Randall’s Corner Café for their personal donations”.

The top 4 nets on the day were:

The Winner of the competition Terry Shaw – 50lbs 13oz.

2nd Richard Lofthouse – 50lbs 8oz

3rd Mike Creine – 46bs 4oz

4th Stuart Holmes 45lbs 12oz.

The top Masonic angler was also the organiser of the event with 28lbs 2oz.

WBro Ian Walvin of Milton Lodge, No. 1144
