The Assistant Provincial Grand Master for the Southern Area, WBro The Reverend Canon Richard Hawkins PSGD, accompanied by an Area Delegation, was received into Reddish Lodge No. 3615 to celebrate WBro Norman T Jackson’s 50th anniversary in Freemasonry.
WBro Norman Jackson PProvJGW, as Lodge Secretary, was invited by the APGM to read an extract from the minutes of his own Initiation in 1974, a moment that holds a special place in the hearts of all present, as it was his father, the Master of Reddish Lodge at that time, who initiated him.
As is his custom at the celebration of personal landmarks, the APGM tested the collective memories of those in attendance, taking everyone back in time, highlighting events taking place in 1947, the year Norman was born, 1974, the year of his initiation, and 1983, the year he became Master of Reddish Lodge for the first time. The Brethren were pretty good on the music charts of 1974 and 83!
WBro Roger Paul PProvGSwdB told us a bit about Norman’s life. He was born in Sale and educated at Manchester Central Grammar School for boys before doing a Material Science degree at University. Most of his working life was spent teaching A-level science at a big secondary school before becoming a Deputy Head of science. Norman married in 1976, and they had a family of two boys. Sadly, his wife died in 1999. Norman enjoys spending time with family, indulging in his Masonic affiliations, and keeping up with household chores (including gardening when needed).
The APGM recounted the remarkable journey of WBro Norman T Jackson, from his father’s initiation into Reddish Lodge in January 1974 to his significant roles as Master of the Lodge, DC, and Secretary. The APGM acknowledged his quiet, accurate, and detailed approach to his duties, a testament to his scientific background and his 30-year tenure as Scribe E of Reddish Chapter. The APGM remarked, “50 years of unbroken service to this Lodge – is wonderful.” This sentiment is something that no one would dispute.
The APGM presented a certificate to WBro Norman Jackson signed by the Provincial Grand Master, acknowledging 50 years of service. WBro Nigel M Johnson, PProvJGW, Area Chairman, then presented the celebrant a lapel pin marking 50 years within the Craft.
The APGM was presented with a donation to the EL 2026 Festival.
