On Thursday 28th May, brethren gathered at Pilkington Lodge No.6522 in Radcliffe Masonic Hall to celebrate a very special milestone as WBro Gerald Noel Howard Young marked 50 years in Freemasonry.

The evening was attended by the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Dr Simon Archer, accompanied by a Provincial deputation, who joined members and visitors in recognising Gerry’s remarkable contribution to the Craft over the past five decades.

Gerry’s Masonic journey began on the 2nd April 1976 when he was initiated into Constellation Lodge No.5395. Over the years he has served Freemasonry in numerous capacities, including as Master of Constellation Lodge, Duke of Connaught and Ethelfleda Lodge, and the East Lancashire Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge No.8408. He has also been a member of several other lodges both within East Lancashire and beyond.

During the evening, tribute was paid to Gerry’s extensive service to the Province. His commitment saw him hold a number of District appointments, including District Secretary, Deputy Chairman, and ultimately District Chairman. His dedication was recognised through successive promotions in Provincial Grand Lodge before culminating in his appointment to Grand Rank as a Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies in 2010.

A particularly heartfelt tribute was delivered by WBro Ian Paul, who reflected on Gerry’s many years of service and friendship. While his impressive Masonic record was rightly celebrated, equal emphasis was placed on the qualities for which he is perhaps best known – his kindness, warmth, generosity, and willingness to support others. These attributes have earned him the respect and affection of countless brethren throughout the Province.

The Assistant Provincial Grand Master presented Gerry with his illuminated 50-Year Certificate on behalf of the Province, recognising half a century of commitment to Freemasonry. The presentation was met with warm applause from a packed Lodge room, many of whom had travelled to share in the celebration.

The evening continued with an enjoyable Social Board, where brethren reflected on Gerry’s many achievements, shared memories from across the years, and raised a toast to a man whose contribution to Freemasonry has been both significant and enduring.

Congratulations, Gerry, on reaching this wonderful milestone. Thank you for your dedication, friendship, and service over the past 50 years, and we wish you many more happy years in Freemasonry.
