On Saturday 26th April, Old Boltonians Lodge No.5814 held its Installation meeting, marking the start of a new Masonic year with WBro Mike Riley being installed as Worshipful Master.
This year’s ceremony was made all the more special by its setting – the Bolton School Arts Centre. Originally built in 1905 as the school’s swimming pool, the building is part of the Lord Leverhulme endowment of Bolton School. Lord Leverhulme, a prominent Freemason, left a legacy still felt in both the school and the Lodge. With the school itself founded in 1516, it’s remarkable to consider that it predates many chapters of modern history – including Henry VIII’s second marriage!
The installation was a well-attended and joyous occasion, elevated by the outstanding efforts of the Lodge’s Director of Ceremonies, David Hawkins. This was David’s first Installation in the role, and he rose to the challenge with distinction. His calm leadership, clear delivery, and attention to detail ensured the ceremony flowed smoothly and with dignity.
Following the formalities, the brethren enjoyed a lively and convivial festive board, rounding off a memorable evening filled with tradition, history, and brotherhood.
