On Wednesday 21st May, thirteen members of Bury Lodge of Relief No.42, including the Worshipful Master, his Wardens, and the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Dr Simon Archer, travelled to the Northern Area to visit Brun Through Hurstwood Lodge No.5118 at Burnley Masonic Hall. This special occasion marked the beginning of a planned exchange between the two lodges.

Both lodges meet on the third Wednesday of each month; however, Bury Lodge of Relief does not meet in May, while Brun Through Hurstwood does – and the reverse is true in September. This presented the perfect opportunity to begin a tradition of reciprocal visits, with 5118 planning to attend 42’s September meeting.

The evening at Burnley was a great success. The host lodge delivered a superb double Second-Degree ceremony, conducted by their Worshipful Master who, despite being under the weather, carried out the work with precision and poise.

Among the distinguished guests was the Assistant Provincial Grand Master for the Northern Area, David McGurty, who was in attendance to present the Lodge with a Grand Patron’s Maul. This honour recognised the Lodge’s extraordinary support and generosity towards the 2026 Festival appeal.

After the business of the evening concluded, the brethren enjoyed a lively and friendly social board, filled with excellent food, conversation, and camaraderie. It was a memorable night for all involved.

The brethren of Bury Lodge of Relief are already looking forward to returning the favour and hosting Brun Through Hurstwood in September for what promises to be an equally enjoyable evening.
