At the last ELMC Committee of Benevolence Meeting on 25 June 2024, a significant decision was made that embodies the spirit of our community and its dedication to fostering growth and opportunity. The Committee awarded an Educational Grant of £2,500 to a remarkable young man, Andrew, who had been invited to attend the World Championships in Jiu Jitsu this month in America. This grant supports his athletic ambitions and represents a collective investment in his future and potential.

Andrew’s journey to this point has been relentless determination and hard work. Growing up in East Lancashire, he discovered his passion for Jiu-Jitsu at a young age. His dedication to the sport and his academic pursuits have made him a standout individual in our community. His achievements in various local and national tournaments caught the attention of the selectors for the World Championships, an opportunity that few ever get to experience.

Last night, Andrew’s story was highlighted on Granada News, where he shared his excitement and gratitude. The news segment showcased his rigorous training routine and featured interviews with his coaches and family, who have unwavering support. The segment also highlighted the East Lancashire Masonic Charity’s generous contribution, highlighting our community’s role in nurturing young talent.

The grant the Committee of Benevolence provided is more than just financial support; it is a testament to our collective belief in Andrew’s potential. This funding will cover his travel, accommodation, and other essential expenses, ensuring that he can focus entirely on representing his country and making the most of this incredible opportunity.
