On Friday 27th March, brethren gathered at Pythagoras Lodge of Installed Masters No.9248 in Radcliffe Masonic Hall for a very special occasion: the celebration of WBro Ken Laidlaw’s Diamond Jubilee – marking 60 remarkable years in Freemasonry.

The evening was made even more special by the presence of the Very Worshipful Deputy Provincial Grand Master, John Griffin, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Simon Archer, and other senior Grand and Provincial officers, all there to honour a Brother whose dedication to the Craft has been unwavering.

The Lodge room was filled to capacity with brethren from across the Province and beyond, creating a warm and supportive atmosphere.

A highlight of the evening was the heartfelt tribute delivered by WBro Jeremy Aston, who reflected on Ken’s extraordinary journey – from his early years in South Shields, through a distinguished career as an electrical engineer that took him all over the world, to his lifelong dedication to Freemasonry. Jeremy’s stories captured Ken’s enthusiasm, his boundless curiosity, and his remarkable commitment to visiting and supporting Lodges wherever his work or travels took him.

Ken’s Masonic journey spans decades and multiple Lodges and Chapters, and his contribution to the Craft has been considerable. Over the years, he has inspired many brethren through his leadership, friendship, and steadfast service, maintaining close ties with his original Lodge in the North East even after transferring his activities to Lancashire.

The Social Board that followed was a jubilant occasion, filled with laughter, anecdotes, and heartfelt toasts. Brethren joined together to celebrate a life well-lived in service to Freemasonry, recognising a man whose example has enriched the Lodge and the wider Province alike.

Congratulations to WBro Ken Laidlaw on this outstanding milestone. May the years ahead continue to bring him happiness, health, and the fellowship of friends, family, and brethren alike.
