Who Are We?
Dormer Lodge has a long and illustrious history within the City West Area. It was consecrated on the 20th December 1935. Members were from all areas of Salford and Manchester and as far afield as Birmingham, North and South Wales with many different occupations for the members which continues to this day. The Lodge flourished from the original 10 Founders, continued to meet during the war years and grew after to ever larger numbers. However, as the 20th century drew to an end the numbers began to decrease and in 2002 Dormer Lodge was approached by St Margaret’s Lodge No.7349, which also met on Fridays at Hemsley House, with the idea of amalgamating to sustain both Lodges. The amalgamation ceremony took place on the 19th September 2003 with eleven members of St Margaret’s Lodge becoming joining members of Dormer Lodge, the lodge name changing to Dormer St Margaret’s but retaining the number 5588. The Lodge currently has 16 members. We like to share the lodge work amongst all members and encourage new brethren to take part and try their best in our ceremonies. Many of our members, past and present, have been active or are active in the running of Hemsley House and/or the Area.
Why Join Us?
We are a Lodge that likes to enjoy itself! We know we make mistakes, but we help each other, we play to our strengths and laugh at the silliness of life. Our main strength is its dedicated members and a great meeting atmosphere. We are a growing lodge. Our meetings are dignified, enjoyable and we try to make them ‘fun’. The Social Boards are formal but not without humour and fun. Our Lodge Almoner is very diligent and active in his duties. As a Lodge we value tradition but are not afraid to adapt it to modern needs. Hemsley House has the benefit of free car parking.
