Duke of Lancaster Lodge – 4207

Who Are We?

Consecrated on the 31st of May 1921, the Lodge originally held its meetings at the Albion Hotel in Manchester. In 1928 it moved to Parker’s Restaurant on St. Mary’s Gate and with the opening of the Masonic Temple on Bridge Street in 1929, the Brethren moved yet again to the new venue. In fact, ‘Bridge Street’ became its Masonic home for the next 73 years! Unfortunately, as Masonry moved into the new millennium, the Lodge faced a serious reduction in membership, aggravated by rising costs in the city and ultimately leading to a call by some members to close. However, rather than pursue this course of action, the Brethren were given a lifeline in the form of an invitation to move to the Rossendale Masonic Hall, Ashday Lea, in Rawtenstall. Clearly not wishing to close, the Brethren took up the challenge and the first regular meeting of the relocated Lodge took place on September 1st 2003. In the following month, WBro Peter G. Woods was Installed as the first Worshipful Master and he was followed the following year by the late lamented, WBro Derek L. Pilling who, needless to say, was largely instrumental in the move to Ashday Lea. In fact, had it not been for this move, the Lodge would most likely have closed and thereby been unable to enjoy a most memorable centenary meeting in June 2022, the first such meeting to be attended in his new capacity by RWBro Robert Frankl.

Why Join Us?

We consider our lodge a very friendly lodge which meet at Lunchtime which is great for retired Masons, it avoids dining/driving late at night. There is ample free parking and is located in a central East Lancashire location with frequent bus services. We serve good food and its not too taxing on a member’s time.

WHEN WE MEET

We meet just 4 times in the year, the months in question being October (Installation), December, March and April. The meeting times are the first Wednesday in the above months and unless there is a special occasion, we Tyle at 11:00am. If special needs require it, a practice may be arranged before the main meeting to ‘brush up’ on one or two points of the ritual and more rarely, a separate practice may be arranged on another day (to be arranged with Hall management) when it is felt that more time is required e.g. Initiation/Installation etc.

LODGE INFO

The lodge holds an annual barbeque and is a regular fixture in the calendar, generating Lodge funds in the process. .
