Earl of Lathom Lodge – 2560

Who Are We?

“The Lodge was consecrated by the RW PGM Bro Col. Le Gendre Nicholas Starkie on
the 18th October 1895, in the Town Hall, Bury. The first WM was Bro T. Mellor.
The Earl of Lathom Lodge was named after the Rt Hon. Earl of Lathom, the Prov. Grand
Master of England. Following the ceremony, a banquet was held at the Royal Hotel on Silver
Street in Bury.
The first regular meeting was held at the Royal Hotel on the 6th November 1895 but it
wasn’t until 1963 when the Lodge started meeting at the new Masonic Hall.
There is evidence that the Earl of Lathom Lodge is the daughter Lodge of Egerton Lodge
No.1392.
The Earl of Lathom’s daughter Lodge, Bury Lodge No.5119, was later amalgamated with the
Lodge of Relief No.42 to become the Bury Lodge of Relief No.42 in 2012.”

Why Join Us?

“Why join us? Well, why not!
We like to mix our meetings with the masonic ritual in Lodge and the more light-hearted
social board. There’s something for everyone. “

WHEN WE MEET

“We meet 9 months of the year from September to May. We meet on the first
Wednesday of the month except in January when it’s on the 2nd Wednesday.
Our Installation meeting is in November.
We have a Lodge of Instruction for the junior brethren on the Wednesday following the
Lodge night and a Lodge practice on the Wednesday before the Lodge Night. However, if
the DC feels that need a little more practice he will arrange one.”

LODGE INFO

“In masonic terms we are a relatively young Lodge in age. Our oldest member is 86
and our youngest 21 and average 58.6. All the main positions in Lodge are occupied by “light blues”, the eldest being 54. Our most recent candidate was only 21 and came via the
recruitment programme. As a Lodge we feel that it is important to maintain a social side, to
mix as a Lodge but also to share our social side with wives, partners, girlfriends etc.
We recently had a Lodge BBQ at Holcombe Tennis Centre which raised over £800. Some of this is earmarked for the Festival (of which we are Grand Patrons) and some for local charities.”
