Lodge of Amity and Rossendale Forest – 283

Who Are We?

The Lodge of Amity and Rossendale Forest No.283 is an amalgamation of two Lodges Amity 283 and Rossendale Forest 4138. We came together in 2012 to form one
Lodge and it has flourished under this amalgamation.
The Lodge of Amity is an extremely old Lodge that received its Charter in the reign of King George III from the Grand Lodge of England on 14th June 1791 and has regularly and
consistently met from that time onward handing on its work from Master to Master to the present day. The Lodge was consecrated in 1791 in Rochdale where it met at the
‘White Swan Hotel’ for 24 years until in 1815 when it moved to Haslingden, meeting at the ‘New Inn’ on Bury Road, During the next 192 years it met at various
establishments in the town until finally moving to Clayton le Moors Freemasons’ Hall, Mill House, in 2007.
Rossendale Forest Lodge 4138 was formed mainly by members of the Lodge of Amity
283 and was consecrated in 1920 in Haslingden, where it met at the Masonic Hall until 2007 when it moved to Clayton le Moors Freemasons’ Hall, Mill House.”

Why Join Us?

“Our Lodge membership is made up of men from diverse occupational backgrounds,
interests, hobbies, and age groups.

We pride ourselves on being an especially welcoming Lodge, and we are incredibly supportive of our new members, encouraging them on their journey of self-improvement through knowledge of our ancient Craft to personal enlightenment, but all at their own pace.

WHEN WE MEET

“Our meetings are held on the Tuesday on or nearest the Full Moon during the months of January to May and September to December. Our
practices are on the Tuesday before the Lodge meeting.”

LODGE INFO

“Each year various social events and activities are organised through the Worshipful
Master and the Social Committee. Our wives, partners, friends, and family are usually
included in the Lodge socials. The events range from formal banquets (Ladies
Evenings) to casual meals at the Masonic Hall, trips to the races (Horse racing), visits
to historical establishments, Go-kart racing, theatre visits, to name but a few. We also
have two specialist groups – the 283 Bikers (motorbikes) who regularly tour the UK
and abroad, the other group is the 283 Fishing and Sea Anglers. If you don’t ride a
motorbike or go fishing, don’t worry, there are plenty of other activities to be involved
with. Charitable work is also important to the Lodge, many members participating in
charitable activity and or sponsorship, we also support many Local and National
Charities as well as our own Masonic Charities.”
