Who Are We?
Our Lodge’s starting point, must be 12th November 1813 when the Grand Master of the Antients, The Duke of Athol, issued a Warrant authorizing Joseph Brown and Benjamin Healey and members of Prince Edwin Lodge to form and hold a Lodge ‘by the sign of the Lower Anchor’ in Rochdale. The Lodge was the penultimate Antient Lodge of the prior to the union with the Moderns when the United Grand Lodge of England was formed.
Our Lodge was consecrated on 9th January 1814 , one of if not the first of the UGLE. The number of the Lodge changed in the early years with the amalgamation of Ancient’s and Moderns and the closing up of numbers – it has remained No. 54 since 1863.
We are one of the oldest Lodges in Rochdale, we have records of our Masonic workings in the area for over 200 years.
