Waverley Lodge – 1322

Who Are We?

The United Grand Lodge of England granted the Warrant or Charter to Waverley Lodge on the 20th June 1870 and was consecrated on 24th September of that same year. Our first Worshipful Master was Reginald Whittaker, a prominent mill owner from the Hurst area of Ashton Under Lyne. At our second meeting on 1st November 1870, the Lodge Initiated its first Candidate and has continued to flourish for over 150 years. The Lodge met in several locations during its early existence, settling at Albert House on 23rd September 1920 when it celebrated its Golden Jubilee.

After a short lean spell, over the past 10 years, Waverley Lodge has found fresh breath, with the number of new members joining over the last few years enabling us to have a new Worshipful Master each year for at least the next five years.

We have a wide age range withing the Lodge, the youngest member is 30, the oldest 94, with an relatively young average age, for Masonic Lodges, of 42 years.

Our members have a wide range of interests – we have rugby club members, musicians, amateur dramatics performers – and from a wide range of professions.

Why Join Us?

Waverley Lodge prides itself on being a warm, friendly and welcoming Lodge to visitors and potential Candidates alike, taking great care with the latter to discuss the merits of Freemasonry and inviting them to join us at a Festive Board for a small insight into the Masonic world and Waverley Lodge in particular. Waverley Lodge embodies the principal of Brotherly Love and the friendships the members share are valued lifelong.

WHEN WE MEET

The Lodge meets on the 4th Thursday in the months of September to November and January to April. The Worshipful Master is installed as Master of the Lodge at our October meeting.
Practices meetings are held on the Thursday in the week prior to each meeting.
