We are immensely proud to highlight the extraordinary achievement of Bro Andy Geelan, the newest member of Grants Lodge No.8825.
Andy, a former soldier who sustained serious injuries while serving in Afghanistan, has demonstrated incredible resilience and determination by completing seven marathons in seven consecutive days – a total of 185.6 miles – across the challenging Rossendale Hills.
This remarkable challenge was undertaken not only as a personal test of endurance but also as a fundraiser for the vital organisations that supported Andy during his recovery, including Combat Stress and the King Edward VII Hospital. These charities provide essential care and rehabilitation to veterans coping with physical injuries and mental health issues, and Andy’s efforts help to raise both funds and awareness for their work.
Over the course of this intense week, Andy climbed over 17,000 feet – equivalent to climbing the height of Mount Everest nearly twice – adding a truly formidable dimension to his runs. In total, from the beginning of his training period until the final marathon, Andy has covered an incredible 1,002 miles and ascended 139,500 feet in and around the Rossendale Hills, highlighting his unwavering commitment to this cause.
Despite the physical toll, which included a stress fracture to his lower left leg and tendon damage sustained from a few falls, Andy persevered with remarkable grit and determination. His journey is a powerful example of courage in the face of adversity and a testament to the strength of spirit that Freemasonry and community support can foster.
Andy’s journey not only inspires those within our Masonic family but serves as a beacon of hope for many veterans and individuals facing similar challenges.
