15th October 2024 Welcome to Mission Control where my fundraising challenge in support of our East Lancashire 2026 Festival will be completed. Ok – it’s my garage really. The challenge is to cycle 2,026 gruelling miles if those miles are sponsored at a rate of £2 per mile. They will be completed on my Watt bike atom that is linked to my whoosh platform via an iPad and that’s where all the rides will be recorded. If you are not familiar with My Whoosh it is a virtual reality cycling world with rides spanning across the globe. My weight, age and height are all recorded and the resistance when cycling uphill is very realistic – believe me, it is as close to real-world cycling as possible. My QR code and link at the bottom of this blog will take you to my gift tap page where donations can be made. Of course, as anyone who knows me will know I will very happily accept donations in any format and will ensure they are added to what will hopefully be a growing total. All rides will be uploaded to Strava and feel free to follow me there where you will see I am a very occasional cyclist and haven’t used the watt bike since early August – so be assured the challenge will be very challenging for me. Many Thanks to Nick Druce for his help in making all this possible. I very occasionally ride my electric mountain bike but those miles will not contribute to this challenge – only those completed without any assistance will be counted. I must say a huge thank you to Joe Galvin who has already donated £50 and sponsored the first 25 miles. Thank you Joe and I hope many others will follow your lead. I will be posting updates regularly so please stay tuned for more information about our festival appeal in support of those who need our help. And without further ado, it’s time to hop onto the bike and start peddling. See you all soon First Ride – 15th October 2024 Aargh my legs are aching now but 16 miles around Kluisbergen in Belgium have been completed in one hour. If I keep up this pace I only have about 80 hours to go!! Not a lot if you say it fast – I just keep telling myself it’s all for a good cause. I still have 9 miles to go before Joe Galvin’s donation has been completed and who knows where I will choose to cycle next. If you log onto Strava you will see the ride took just over an hour and I burned 588 calories. Please use the following link or QR code to make an online donation.
