The festive spirit undoubtedly permeates the Masonic calendar, and the Festive Board following the meeting of Three Shires Lodge was a prime example. The occasion was further enhanced by the presence of W.Bro. Wesley Marchant PJGD, Assistant Provincial Grand Master, whose pastoral visit provided a welcome opportunity for both old acquaintances to reminisce and new friendships to blossom.

Members of the Area Delegation, including W.Bro. Bob Boyd and W.Bro. David Oakley, both recently appointed Officers of the Year, added to the convivial atmosphere. This marked their inaugural visit as part of the Southern Area Delegation, adding a fresh layer of significance to the proceedings.

The lodge business itself proved equally engaging. W.Bro. Ian Kenworthy presented a captivating paper titled “The Ritual,” a piece he had initially penned several decades prior but which is still highly relevant and strikes a chord with Freemasonry as it is today. The paper offered a thoughtful exploration of the ritual’s past and current state, coupled with insightful observations on its potential future evolution.

The APGM expanded on a point within the paper – this being the vital connection between Freemasons and the wider community. He underscored the inherent link between an organisation dedicated to charitable endeavours and the core principles of service and community engagement. Drawing upon his own extensive involvement with SSAFA, the armed forces charity, the APGM provided a compelling illustration of this vital connection in action.

It should come as no surprise that numerous Freemasons actively participate in activities alongside their wives and families, many of which are deeply rooted within their local communities. For many, Freemasonry serves as a natural extension and a powerful expression of shared values, enriching their lives and strengthening their bonds with those around them.
