RMBI Care Co. Ecclesholme, Manchester

The Board of Trustees for RMBI Care Co. has recently approved a new 20-year vision for the charity, which reflects the changing nature of care provision, and the continued need of older Freemasons and their families in the years to come. This vision aims to expand the availability of care at RMBI Care Co. Homes as well as exploring options for supporting the cost of care at other providers in care homes which are local to where people live.

In developing this long-term vision, a review was undertaken about the future options for Ecclesholme, which supports up to 50 people with residential care and residential dementia support in Manchester.

The Home retains a high level of occupancy; however, only a small number of residents are Freemasons or their dependants (27%), with the vast majority of placements now being offered to the wider community and funded by the local authority.

Whilst the service and quality provided by Ecclesholme, which is rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) remains high, RMBI Care Co. has run the service at an increasing financial loss over the past decade due to the escalating gap between local authority funding and the actual cost of care.

A decision has therefore been made for Ecclesholme to be transferred to Franklin Care Group, a local provider with a number of care homes in the surrounding area, all rated ‘Good’ with CQC. The transfer will allow residents at Ecclesholme to continue to receive the necessary level of care and support, and staff to retain their jobs as they transfer over to the new provider.

Provincial Grand Masters for the Provinces of Cumberland & Westmorland, East Lancashire, West Lancashire and Cheshire have been briefed about and support plans for Ecclesholme, as well as our plans to increase our care support services to Freemasons in the North West as we look to the future.
