On Wednesday 2nd April, the Western Area proudly marked a significant milestone in its commitment to supporting and developing newer Freemasons with the launch of the East Lancashire Level Club (ELLC) in the Area. The event was hosted by the Earl Of Lathom Lodge No.2560 and saw an impressive turnout, with a packed lodge room made up predominantly of ‘Light Blue’ brethren.

The evening featured a well-received presentation delivered by WBro Adam Cooper, the ELLC Western Area Chairman. His address provided an insightful overview of the Club’s mission, structure, and ambitions, resonating strongly with the brethren present.

WBro Cooper explained that the ELLC focuses on three key pillars: mentoring, social engagement, and Masonic education. Mentoring is aimed at fostering a sense of belonging among newer members while offering practical support to Lodge Mentors and Membership Officers. The social aspect of the Club encourages both Masonic and non-Masonic interactions, including organised Lodge visits and external events to build camaraderie. On the educational front, the ELLC seeks to provide resources and opportunities for brethren to deepen their understanding of Masonic ritual and explore the rich history of the Craft.

Supporting this vision is a strong leadership team. The Western Area committee is chaired by WBro Adam Cooper (Bury), with Michael Ferguson and Matthew Foley representing Bolton, Neil Clayton (Area Mentor) and John Clayton (Area Membership) covering Radcliffe, and Mark Vinten supporting members in Rossendale. Together, this team will be instrumental in delivering the Club’s goals and ensuring that Light Blue Masons throughout the Area feel supported and engaged.

The vision for the Western Area ELLC is focused on three strategic aims. First, to increase membership by building on early enthusiasm and encouraging brethren to join. Second, to promote Lodge visiting within individual Halls, across the Area, and throughout the wider Province. Third, to develop succession by maintaining a strong committee and preparing future leaders to sustain the Club’s growth.

Membership of the ELLC is open to any Freemason within the Province of East Lancashire who has not yet received Provincial honours. For an annual fee of just £15, members gain access to exclusive events and meetings, educational materials and resources, leadership opportunities within the Club, and a supportive network of like-minded brethren from across the Province.

The event was further supported by the presence of the ELLC Provincial Chairman, Bro Aaron Garner, and the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, WBro Simon Archer, both of whom expressed their full support for the initiative.

The evening concluded with an excellent social board, capping off what was a thoroughly successful and inspiring launch. With energy, vision, and a growing number of enthusiastic members, the future of the ELLC in the Western Area is looking bright.
