WBro Douglas Smith, PProvJGW, Rochdale District Chairman, attended Rochdale Masonic Hall for a very low-key, informal celebration of the 50th anniversary in Freemasonry of Bro J Roger Clegg who was initiated into Hope Lodge by his father in 1972*

In any other business, WBro John Taylor thanked Bro Clegg for his service to Freemasonry. He then presented a certificate from the Deputy Provincial Grand Master in Charge, noting that it was a very rare occurrence for a Deputy Provincial Grand Master in Charge to sign a 50th-anniversary certificate. Finally, he was paraded around the lodge to great acclaim by his guests and brethren in attendance.

To conclude the proceedings, a 50 years lapel badge, to be worn with pride, was presented by District Chairman, WBro Smith.

At the Festive Board, Roger received a fitting tribute to his Masonic career from his brother (another Lewis) WBro Peter Clegg

Bro Roger received a heartfelt gift from the members of Hope lodge to celebrate his time as a Freemason. Bro Clegg thanked everyone for attending; among those present were two other Brethren who achieved 50 years in Freemasonry, WBro Graham Adamson and WBro Graham Morris
