On Wednesday 20th May, members of the Bury Lodge of Relief No.42 travelled to Burnley Masonic Hall to visit Brun Through Hurstwood Lodge No.5118, continuing a tradition that has quickly become a highlight of the Masonic calendar for both lodges.

The relationship between the two lodges began due to a quirk in their meeting schedules. Both meet on the third Wednesday of the month, but whilst the Bury Lodge Of Relief does not usually meet in May, Brun Through Hurstwood does. The reverse is true in September. What started as an opportunity for a visit has since developed into an annual exchange, with each lodge looking forward to welcoming the other during their respective meetings.

The principal business of this year’s meeting was an Initiation Ceremony, delivered to a high standard by the officers of Brun Through Hurstwood Lodge. The candidate was introduced to Freemasonry in an impressive fashion, and the ceremony was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance.

As ever, the welcome from the members of 5118 was warm and generous. The lodge room was filled with good humour throughout the evening, and it was clear to see the strong bond that has developed between the two lodges over recent years.

Following the meeting, the brethren retired to a superb social board where good food, great company, and plenty of conversation rounded off the evening perfectly. It was another memorable visit and a reminder of why the annual exchange has become such a popular fixture for both lodges.

The brethren of the Bury Lodge Of Relief now look forward to welcoming their friends from Brun Through Hurstwood Lodge to Bury in September, when the tradition will continue once again.
