Freedom Lodge 3837 recently enjoyed a particularly memorable occasion with the initiation of Mr John Raymond Mellor, aged 74, into the Craft.

The initiation of a Lewis — the son of a Freemason — is always a special event, representing the continuation of a family connection with Freemasonry and the passing of its values from one generation to the next. While Lewises are often initiated at a younger age, John’s initiation at 74 was a reminder that the attraction of Freemasonry knows no age limits, and that it is never too late to begin a new journey.

The ceremony was conducted by the officers of Freedom Lodge 3837, who delivered the ritual in an excellent manner. Their preparation, teamwork and commitment helped ensure that the evening was both memorable and meaningful for the candidate.

The Lodge was also pleased to welcome several visitors, whose presence added to the warmth and fellowship of the occasion. The gathering reflected the strong bonds that unite Freemasons across Lodges and the shared enjoyment of witnessing an important milestone in a Brother’s Masonic life.

For Brother John Raymond Mellor, the evening marked the beginning of his own journey into Freemasonry, an organisation built upon friendship, integrity, respect and service to others.

Freedom Lodge 3837 can take great pride in the successful ceremony and in welcoming John into the Brotherhood. The Lodge looks forward to supporting him as he develops his understanding of Freemasonry and takes his first steps along the Masonic path.

The evening was an excellent example of the ceremonial standards, fellowship and family connections that continue to make Freemasonry such a valued part of our communities across East Lancashire.
