On Friday the 26th of May 2023 a special, perhaps even unique, Initiation took place at Denton Lodge No 5234 in the Southern Area of the Province.
It was special because the 19-year-old candidate (Mr. Brandon Robert Gee) is not only a Lewis but the son of a Lewis (Bro Stuart David Taylor), who was the acting Junior Deacon for the evening. The Ceremony was even more poignant as it was conducted by Brandon’s Grandfather (WBro Harvey Taylor) the acting Worshipful Master for the evening.
The ceremony was attended by the APGM for the area, The Rev Canon Richard Whishaw Hawkins and three other Grand Lodge Officers, as well as a delegation from the District Team. This meant there was an attendance of 52 brethren on the night from across the Province.
What made this evening extra special and poignant is that Brandon didn’t have the easiest start in life. He was born prematurely at just over 31 weeks and was starved of oxygen which led to brain damage and Cerebral Palsy. Brandon’s prognosis wasn’t good and his family were told that he would never walk, talk or lead any sort of independent life.
Well, this young man has proved everybody wrong and is now leading a happy and fulfilled life. He is a joy to be around and spreads positivity wherever he goes. He even raised £300 during lockdown for the Masonic Charities fund, by building wooden birdhouses with his Dad. He has attended many Masonic functions and Volunteers regularly to wait on and dance with the Widows at the Oldham District Widows party. Because of this, he made the decision to become a Mason and follow in the footsteps of his Grandfather and Dad.
Brandon, his Grandfather, his Father and all the members of Denton Lodge would like to thank everyone who attended and supported him on his special evening and looks forward to visiting other Lodges.
