A simple table. A real difference.

A £700 grant from the East Lancashire Masonic Charity has helped provide a new pool table for Darwen Ward at the Pendleview Unit, Royal Blackburn Hospital.

During a recent visit, Area Charity Steward Graham Robinson saw first-hand how the table has become far more than just a game. It is now a focal point for activity, conversation, confidence and calm.

Patients who may previously have stayed in their rooms are now being encouraged to come out, take part and engage with others. A frame of pool provides structure, focus, friendly competition and a welcome sense of achievement.

The grant was made through Hope and Mind, the charity supporting Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust, which helps fund equipment and services that the NHS may not otherwise be able to provide.

This is charity at its most practical. It isn’t always about grand gestures. Sometimes, meeting a simple need can have a lasting impact, creating opportunities for conversation, confidence and connection every single day.
