On Sunday the 14th January over 30 Brethren from all the Halls in the East Ribble District assembled at Gaskell Motor Bodies in Great Harwood, to receive their instructions and marshalling points for assisting the smooth operation of the annual 10k run. The event actually started a day earlier for Worshipful Brethren Bruce Pollard and Ian Johnson, with the delivery of the Provincial Trailer to the site, this was then set up early on the morning in readiness for the main body of Brethren arriving for a 9.00am briefing.
Thankfully the weather was a little kinder than 12 months ago, but it was still a very cold morning. Lots of tea and bacon butties were consumed before everyone set off to their marshalling points.
Around 600 runners registered for the main race, with more arriving to register on the day, the total amount raised isn’t known at the time of writing, but the same event last year raised approximately £10,000. The race was officially started by the Mayor of Hyndburn, Councillor Peter Britcliffe and the Mayoress, his youngest daughter Sarah. They were flanked by Storm Troopers who were there to aid in the giving by posing for photographs with the assembled.
Once the adult runners were off, the juniors race was started with the budding athletes of the future vying for the front runner spot. Once again a very successful event and a very worthwhile cause well supported by a large number of Brethren yet again.
